If this is your first time visiting the site, thank you for your involvement in the CHBC Booster Buddy Program.  If at any time you have questions or would like to see something added to this page, please feel free to email Bonnie Johnson On this page you should find everything you'll need to know about your responsibilities as a booster buddy, a small handful of rules we ask you all abide by, and some great resources for your scrapbooks.

**Update 10/28/09:  Click HERE for a list of the 2009-10 Booster Buddies and their player assignments.  If you have any articles or pictures to share, feel free to email each other.

Booster Buddy Responsibilities

Assemble a scrapbook for their assigned player throughout the 2009-10 season
Present completed scrapbooks to players at the end of the season
Send their player anonymous (signed "your booster buddy") birthday/holiday cards

Update:  A few of you have asked where to send your birthday/holiday cards, I completely forgot to provide an address.  Unless you hear otherwise, you can send all cards to the following address.

PLAYER NAME
c/o Lake Erie Monsters
1 Center Ice
Cleveland, OH  44115

Rules

Every Booster Buddy is to be a current member of the Cleveland Hockey Booster Club (CHBC) and in good standing
Scrapbooks are to contain a minimum of 20 pages front and back.
Gifts, if you choose to give one, should be valued at $25 or less.  You are not required to give your player gifts for their birthday or Christmas, but many members may choose to.  I ask that you keep it to a reasonable amount to avoid any appearance of favoritism or hurt feelings.
Alcohol is not to be given to any players, whether of age or not, from their booster buddy.  If you'd like to buy your player a drink and the opportunity presents itself, go for it....but don't do so under the CHBC Booster Buddy name.  It sounds silly, but we don't need the club liable for underage drinking or any festivities taking place after drinking.

The CHBC reserves the right to add to/change these rules at any time throughout the season.  In a nutshell, just don't do anything that could cast a bad light on the club or any of its members.  We're afforded an opportunity to interact and do something special for these players during their time in Cleveland and it would be a shame to lose that due the actions of one member.

What if...?

Throughout the season, players will probably come and go.  This may present a problem if your player is one of the comers or goers.  Here are some general guidelines regarding player movement, but each case will likely be handled individually.

To receive a scrapbook, players should:
   1) Play at least 10 games with Lake Erie -or-
   2) Be listed on the LEM roster (be in residence) for at least 1 month of the season

If your player is called-up to the NHL Colorado Avalanche or sent down to the ECHL Charlotte Checkers (or other ECHL team) AND IS REPLACED by another player (i.e John Doe is called up to Colorado, Bob Smith is sent to Cleveland), you will be asked to assume booster buddy duties for the incoming player (Bob).  You will have the option of stopping work on your first scrapbook at the date your player leaves, or continuing to work on their book, filling it with Colorado or Charlotte news/pictures/etc.  I encourage anyone in these situations to try to continue their scrapbooks, as many times their player will return to Cleveland before the season ends.

If your player is traded during the season, you will be asked to assume booster buddy duties for a new incoming player.  You will have the option of continuing your scrapbook for your player with his new team, or stopping with their last date in Cleveland.  Trades are fairly rare, but they do happen.  Sometimes we'll trade a player and receive no one in return.  In that case, we will try to find you a replacement player, or possibly ask that you assist others with their scrapbooks while waiting for a new arrival.

If any other questions come up as the season goes along, again, contact Bonnie Johnson.  bsjhockey@yahoo.com

Scrapbooks

Where to begin??  If this is your first time building a scrapbook, don't be scared!!  It can be a lot of fun and there's really no wrong way to do it.  Everyone will soon find their own technique.  Number one piece of advice...don't wait until the last minute to begin your scrapbook!!  With an 80 game season and potentially dozens of extra events throughout the year, its simply too much material to put together in a week.  We suggest setting aside time at least once a month to assemble the various sections of your scrapbook.

The CHBC will order 12x12 scrapbooks in bulk for you to use.   The club typically also has nameplates made up for the front of your scrapbook, listing the player's name and the current season.  Bonnie Johnson will inform you of the costs at the appropriate time.

Scrapbooking materials can be found many places, but if you need a place to start, try these locations:

Archiver's - Sometimes expensive...but people have been known to find some nice stuff in their clearance bins.
Joann Fabrics - Another great source for scrapbooking paper and some other add-ons.
Pat Catan's - One more place for scrapbook paper.

Other possible locations worth checking out may be Walmart or Target, but selection will vary from store to store.

So you've got some scrapbook pages, but what to put on them??  First, start with newspaper articles.  You have the option of running out to buy the Plain Dealer the day after every game, or maybe pairing up with someone who has a subscription and making Xerox copies of every Monsters article.  Copies are usually the way to go, in case you cut it out bad, spill something on it, rip it, etc.  Another option is to find articles online after every game and print them out yourself.  Often times, your player may not be mentioned in the newspaper article.  You can opt to leave those articles out, but you might not have much by the end of the season.  Suggestion: include every game article in your scrapbook, whether your player is mentioned or not.

News Articles

LakeErieMonsters.com - Guaranteed to have recaps for each game...a great place to start.
LEMs on Cleveland.com (Plain Dealer) - PD articles can be found on cleveland.com
Google Alerts - If you've never used Google Alerts before, take a second right now to set one up.  These are essential for finding news articles for road games and from odd sources you might not expect.  Simply visit the Google Alerts page, enter your search terms (I suggest your player name, preferably in quotes. i.e. "John Doe"), choose what type of alerts you want to get (I prefer Comprehensive so I don't miss anything), decide how often you want to receive the emails (I suggest daily, as some articles are only available online for 24 hours after publishing) and finally, enter your email address.  You'll be asked to verify your alert by clicking a link in an email, but after that, you should start receiving emails anytime your player is mentioned on the wonderous world wide web.

Pictures

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.  The more pictures you can accumulate for use in your scrapbook, the better.  I encourage you all to have a camera with you at any team event, game, autograph session, etc.  If possible, try to get pictures of players other than your own so you can share/trade with other booster buddies.

Other Assorted Thoughts

If there is enough interest and a location can be determined, we can organize some dates to get together in a group to share materials, pictures, news, etc.  If it's something you'd be interested in hosting or just attending, let Bonnie know.  Expect to visit with Bonnie every month or two to go over your progress.

Thanks again for your involvement with the 09-10 CHBC Booster Buddy Program and I hope everyone has a great season!!
